Sugar Free Pumpkin Pie

Who doesn't love pumpkin pie during the holidays? A delicious pumpkin pie is usually one of the desserts served after a Thanksgiving feast. However, if you are on a restricted sugar or sugar free diet you might be discouraged because you think you can't have pie. The good news is that you can make a sugar free pumpkin pie that has all the delicious flavor of the original with none of the sugar. You won't even be able to tell that the pie you are eating has no sugar, thanks to sugar substitutes. There are many recipes out there for pumpkin pie with no sugar. This is one of them you may want to try:

1 ready-made sugar free pie crust
1 can pumpkin
2 packages of sugar free vanilla pudding
2 cups milk
2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

Pour milk, pudding and pumpkin pie spice into a saucepan until the pudding dissolves. Add the pumpkin, then stir well until blended. Heat over medium until the mixture comes to a boil. Boil for approximately one minute while stirring frequently. Continuing to stir the mixture will prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Pour the mixture into the pie crust and refrigerate overnight.

As you can see, it is so easy to make pumpkin pie without the sugar. In the above recipe you don't even need a sugar substitute. Some recipes do call for a sugar substitute. There are several good choices available. Some cooks prefer to use natural fruit juice concentrate. Others like Sweet N Low or Splenda. The difference is that Sweet N Low is aspartame and Splenda is sucrose. What you should use depends on your preferences and the advice of your physician. If you have cut out sugar for medical reasons your doctor should give you dietary guidelines to follow.

There are recipes that call for sugar substitutes and eggs, that must be baked in the oven. Another popular type of pumpkin dessert is pumpkin cheesecake.
